In essence: The Call is a vertical plea. We are called to become a unified voice for the unborn- to stand in the gap for this nation and plead Jesus' blood over ours and our nation's sins. To ask God to end abortion and send revival to America.
On January 12, 2008, in a packed U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati, Ohio, thousands gathered to pray, fast, and worship before God for the nation to wake up and stand up for the aborted who've been given no chance or choice at life. Here are the statistics of recorded abortions in America alone (in 1996):
Number of abortions per year: 1.37 Million (1996)
Number of abortions per day: Approximately 3,700
For far too long, we have turned a deaf ear to the reality that millions of babies have already been murdered, and it will continue unless we cry out to God for change to take place. I kept going back to II Chronicles 7:14 before we arrived on Saturday, and it kept coming up on more than one occasion while we were there. I must admit that because of it being 'the norm' in our society, I rarely gave abortion a second thought. Until now. I can be passionate about many things that are very important to me. God is changing my heart so that I feel his heart regarding abortion, and in doing so I'm becoming pro-active in praying for change.
Genesis 9:6 says,
Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed; for in the image of God has God made man.
The Lord detests hands that shed innocent blood (Pr. 6:17). Even though I myself have not aborted a baby, I'm just as guilty as one who has because I've been silent and have not asked God to forgive us as a nation and change our hearts regarding abortion. Can I truly profess to love the Lord with all of my heart, soul, mind, body, and strength yet be indifferent to something that is so detestable to Him? In the story of Cain and Abel, when Cain had taken Abel's life and was asked by God where his brother was, he answered and God immediately said, "What have you done? Listen! Your brother's blood cries out to me from the ground! Now you are under a curse and driven from the ground, which opened its mouth to receive your brother's blood from your hand." (Gen. 4:10,11)
God is a just God, and He does not change. If Abel had to answer to the Lord for his brother's shed blood, we must also be aware that the same pertains to us. Doing nothing means we're just as guilty. Abortion is and always will be a 'sticky' subject. Some feel like they have no right to tell someone else what to do with their bodies. Murder is murder, and we were given authority to apply the law to those who commit it. Why should abortion be treated differently? I was once silent. Now I'm being held to a level of accountability because God has made me aware of the seriousness of abortion. I'm accountable to pray for the unborn; to pray for the mothers who've already had (or who will one day be faced with the decision to have) an abortion; to pray for the fathers who are willingly involved in aborting their baby. The Call was not a 'conference' to allow Christians to gather and look 'spiritual' to the world. It was a time for us to wake-up and see the Lord's heart..become sorrowful so that we wouldn't be complacent about this genocide any longer. It may seem 'radical' to some..but I do not want to be 'lukewarm'. I want us to be prepared for the Lord's return (I Th. 5:2) . We cannot let Him find us sleeping..
